Five Things You Need to Do Before Every Flight

Flights are not always the best part of any vacation. Some people enjoy spending time in a plane, while others hate the experience.

There are many things you can do that will make your flight more enjoyable and comfortable, regardless of whether you are the type who enjoys flying or not.

These are the top things you should do before you fly so that your flight is smooth and enjoyable.

Pack & Don’t Forget Hygiene Products

Proper packing is a key part of preparing for a trip. For me, this means taking enough time to pack. It’s not good to rush packing and forget a crucial item, such as your swimsuit.

You can buy a toothbrush or a bikini in almost any place, but plan ahead to avoid rushing.

You should ensure that your carry-on bag contains all of your essentials and comforts so it can pass security. Bottles less than 3.2 oz should be kept in a sealed baggie. Sharp objects are not allowed.

This is particularly important for long-haul flights where you want to feel as comfortable as possible. You might need to bring things such as a hairbrush or an eye mask so that you are well-rested upon landing.

Hygiene products can make all the difference!

A wet washcloth and toothpaste can make your day brighter. A small zippered bag is a good choice to keep your essentials like a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, hairbrush, and moisturizing wipes. A hydrating sheet mask is a great way to keep your face fresh on the plane.

Before you leave

Hydrate

I have a routine I follow before I fly. I recommend that you drink lots of water the day before to ensure that your body is properly hydrated.

Clean

You might have more time to clean if you plan ahead!

If you have the time, I will clean up and organize my home before I leave so it is a sanctuary when I return.

Cleaning the house before I leave is a bonus but another factor is…well, me! I love to shower, scrub, shave, and apply a thick layer of moisturizer, from head to foot. This makes me feel more relaxed for long flights and allows me to be ready to jump in the hotel pool as soon as I get there.

Dress well

Your comfort and destination should be the main factors in choosing your travel clothes. You should dress loosely and bring a scarf or jacket with you on the plane.

Avoid wearing belts and excessive jewelry. They can slow down your progress through security.

Comfortable clothing is important to ensure you are comfortable on the flight.

You should always have a changeable outfit in case you land in a foreign country. You should bring sandals and shorts if you are traveling to tropical destinations. Make sure you have a warm sweater in case you land in snowy areas.

Avoid the Bar

It’s tempting to drink alcohol on a flight, especially if you’re travelling with friends. However, it is better to limit your intake when flying. You are more likely to get sick if you drink alcohol.

Instead, try herbal tea. It helps to stay hydrated and calms the nerves.

Pack Snacks

You’ll be hungry no matter how short the flight. You can pack trail mix, raisins, and jerky as easy snacks.

Avoid stale cheeses and smoked fish, as they can cause disruption to your neighbors. Many airlines won’t allow you to bring fresh fruits or vegetables onboard.

Drink Liquids

Before and during your flight, drink lots of water. Recycled aircraft air can cause skin and fluid problems and disrupt your body’s natural balance.

After you have passed security, take a water bottle or empty container and fill it at a fountain.
